Pardon the terrible flip-phone quality, but I always found it amusing that this is the LOWEST brightness Humdrum’s dash lighting can dim to......in person, it’s actually not quite as bright as it appears in the pic, but it’s still brighter than you’d think a “dimmest” setting would be!

Also....lemon-limey backlight coloring makes me want Mountain Dew...

The rear vents in my 4Runner only provide ventilation if you’re using the “blow air in my face option”. Here in Canada, the defrost and split defrost/footwell setting gets a LOT more use (nearly 8 months of the year) so the rear seat basically never geta direct heat. It’s a good thing the kids have really warm winter clothing...

The fuel guage iny olds reads 3/4 of a tank until it has 1/4 tank left and the it just flops around depending in how hard I accelerate and corner.

I just bought my wife a dodge caravan. The cluster is lit all the time which is a bit confusing wether the headlights are on or not, when the headlights are on, which there is no auto mode, one manually turns them on, a green light on the dash comes on.

On the equinox my wife drove for the last 10 years, had auto headlights and the green dash light was for DRL & turned off when headlights came on.

My metro has eaten two 2nd gear syncros.

My handbrake lever is on the passenger side of the center console. So when I pull on it, I’m actually pulling at an angle towards myself, unless I lean over and plant my elbow on the armrest, which is really awkward.

I sometimes worry that I’m causing premature wear, since the mechanism is only supposed to move straight up-and-down. I’ve even looked into a RHD console/lever assembly, but it turns out they’re the same, and RHD drivers get to have their handbrake lever in a more advantageous position.

In my DD Mercury Mariner the seat heater will sometimes turn itself on when the car is started. Since the button and indicator for it is down on the side of the seat by the door this can mean that my ass gets very warm before I realize what’s happening.

Sometimes if I turn Lucky’s headlights on, they won’t automatically open like they’re supposed to, and I’ll have to use the up-down switch. Also, when you cut it off, the fan will run for exactly 15 minutes, no matter how long (or not) the car was running.

That being said, I think the Genesis Coupes and Sedans are actually pretty nice looking cars! It’s an astoundingly stupid place to put it. When it’s dark you can see the orange glow from the light but during the day it’s nearly impossible. I’ve looked around and I guess it’s a fairly common problem on that generation of Mariner/Escape. There is no cure but most people think it’s the leather of the seat hitting the button when you get in.

My S10 starts on the first crank upon cold startup. But, any subsequent starts...you have to let the fuel pump prime first, or it will stumble and take about 30 seconds to start. The pump is an aftermarket unit that just sucks. But, it's been this way for a year now so I just deal with it until I have to replace the pump someday.

Hmmm, interesting! Sounds perhaps like it’s factory! I think some cars do have it as standard now that I think about it....I seem to remember there being a warning in the owner’s manual of our old Dodge Caravan years ago saying that the fan could stay on to help cool things down after it was shut off...

No point in replacing something that still works, even if it’s not 100% perfect all the time!

Weirdly, I always turn the key and let the fuel pump in my Accent prime before I actually turn it to “Start” to crank....maybe I am just odd, haha! I don’t HAVE to, I just do out of sympathy as I would think it helps the engine start more easily and is easier on the starter motor as well due to less cranking. :)

The tank in the olds is pretty much square, like everything else on the car, with the exception of the tires and steering wheel, so I can guess what’s it’s doing by how quick the top quarter goes. Hauling a 350 chevy around in the trunk certainly isn’t helping my fuel economy however.

My on board computer in my M3 will calculate my remaining fuel range, but won't give me my average mpg or average speed. Average speed says 0.0mph and fuel economy is blank. I have yet to figure out why this happens because I feel like calculating range would depend on those two factors.

Sometimes the radio in my car will stick in a certain mode (mainly aux from what I have seen) and there will be no sound. To make it start working again, you simply undo the seatbelt while the car is in gear and let the seatbelt warning chime come on. The radio will then start working again.

If the vapor barrier in any of my doors gets loose (the factory caulking holding the plastic sheet crumbles after a while) that car door will fill with water during a long rain or car wash. Doesn’t make it into the car, but if it’s a rear door and you don’t know about it, a gallon of water may come pouring out when you’re picking your kid up from school. Or, given enough time, you’ll hear water sloshing when you go around a turn and wonder what the hell that noise was.

My Blazer likes to lock and unlock its own doors unless I pull the fuse, which is how it is now. Also, the starter motor is original and only likes to engage for about a second. Luckily, the engine is comically easy to start, and always chugs itself to life from that little kick from the mostly dead starter. I thought about replacing it, but it has never gotten any worse, so I haven’t. Just carry a spare starter on long drives. the Subaru doesn’t really have any quirks, what I do find nice and unusual though is the handbrake lever is angled slightly toward me, so pulling it in a more natural direction doesn’t put later force on the lever.

My car has VW's "undefeatable" ESP, which cannot be deactivated. Interestingly enough, if you hold your foot on the clutch pedal at the point where it just stops grabbing and just before you let go, it will stop using the ESP, allowing you to rip the front tires almost as if you didn't have ESP at all. I learned this trick on accident when I rode the clutch once, and it's helped me get good launces without bogging ever since!

My Civic won’t let you lock the driver door from inside unless the door is closed (won’t open if it’s locked). So the only option to lock that door is with the key or fob from outside the car.

However, if you make the mistake of locking the passenger while it is open, you can lock your key in from that side... which I obviously don’t know from experience.

Sounds like my old 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5TS....it had an aftermarket keyless system when I bought it. There must’ve been a short in the wiring for it as the car constantly thought a door was ajar and would leave the interior light on unless I turned it off....the alarm system WORKED, but I could never use it because it would think a door was being opened CONSTANTLY and would immediately set itself off...(considering the “This Side Up” side of the alarm electrics box under the dash was facing down, pretty sure somebody who was NOT a genius installed it, so a short didn’t surprise me).

Kindof a clever design to that handbrake then - always nice to see little touches where the engineers were thinking of those little sort of things! :)

Pretty hilarious about the Blazer starter...some of those old GM motors just lope along. :)

Wow, never knew that! Pretty cool piece of engineering! But I will have to add the fact that it’s in an old German car, so if it ever breaks I imagine the repair costs will kill you! :P

You need a fancy car like my Passat - it primes the fuel pump when you open the driver’s door. Such luxury!

I don’t blame them, they are probably fairly reliable as well, considering KIA/Hyundai’s recent quality!

During the summer mine’s usually on just “face” set to a low speed (no A/C in my car :P ), but in the winter it’s almost always on “defrost/feet” or just “defrost” until things warm up and melt and then it goes on “face/feet” to keep me warm until I arrive. :P

If it breaks, you have to take the entire thing apart, so yeah. There’s at least a “emergency manual close” screw, if it gets stuck open.

Fun Fact: Being a coupe, the Challenger only got a power seat on the driver’s side. Power seat was never even an option for the passenger side.

The wheel is straight with the dash on mine. Toyota had plenty of space. Also weird is the steering feel is pretty good.

Yeah, most things about the Blazer are crappy it endearing depending on how you look at it haha

I commented on a different post that my ignition switch is between the seats, where I can’t accidentally bump it with my knee.

Also, like Zoidberg’s Celica, my car has an oversized steering wheel, which feels really nice. It also helps when I’m parallel parking: I don’t have power steering, but the large diamater helps me exert extra torque on the steering wheel.

I’m more worried that I took my car to the dealer (rather than breaking/losing clips and having a door panel rattling for the rest of time) and after an expensive repair I had to take it back again as they botched the fix and two months later I had the same problem back in the same door.

The first time it happened I just did a Google search for the issue and came across a post on one of the BMW forums about it. Apparently it is a known issue with the BMW business stereo that just happens every now and then.

Pretty amusing, but it makes sense. That being said, I always thought Power Seats were sortof needless, TBH....unless somebody else drives your car frequently, it seems pointless carrying around all that fancy linkage/motors just to move your seat when it is pretty much “set it and forget it”...

That would be very irritating...I had to take my rear trunk trim apart to fix/upgrade my car’s rear license plate bulbs and to fix my license plate mounts, and I managed to break two clips on two of the trunk hatch side trim pieces...hoping superglue or epoxy will help! :(

Well, its my daily, and while I do agree with the “set it and forget it” and less weight, I have a bad back, so sometimes (read: often) I need to reposition to stay comfortable.

Funny enough, it is connected through a small speaker meant for the door chime. You can actually change how loud the chime is with the volume button. I guess with letting the chime cut on it resets itself.

Makes sense for you then! :) To each his own! I wish cars would let you tick boxes nowadays rather than “oh, buy THIS trim level to get that feature!” Would be so much more helpful...
